Quick-responding police were able to arrest a rape suspect minutes after the alleged assault, which took place on Detroit’s west side, was called in on Monday night.

The alleged assault took place about 7:50 p.m. in an alley in the area of Dexter and Collingwood, said Officer Dan Donakowski, a Detroit Police Department spokesman.

Detroit police have arrested a suspect who they say sexually assaulted a woman in an alley Monday night.

Police say they were alerted that a criminal sexual assault was in progress in the area, and arrived to find a man, 39, with mud on his shoes and blood on his hands. They detained him and continued investigating.

The victim, a 39-year-old woman, told police she’d been forced into the alley by the man and physically and sexually assaulted. Police placed the man under arrest and he is at Detroit Detention Center, pending charges.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, Donakowski said, but no update on her condition was immediately available.
