Second man gets 10-30 years in firefighter's death
Two men convicted in the death of a veteran Detroit firefighter will spend decades behind bars for their roles in the 2015 murder.
Christian Rasnick, 20, was sentenced Thursday to 10 to 30 years in prison for second-degree murder. He pleaded guilty Oct. 17 in the murder of firefighter David Madrigal, who was found dead Dec. 21, 2015, in his home on Vaughan on the west side.
The sentence was part of his plea deal.
A second defendant in the case, Timmy Lynn Soto, 33, was sentenced Wednesday to 40 to 82 years for second-degree murder and felony firearm. The last defendant, Nicole Oneill, 34, is expected to go to trial March 8 on charges of armed robbery, third-degree arson, and larceny in a building.
Madrigal, 59, died of blunt-force trauma to the head, reportedly from a gym weight, according to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's office.
