Detroit police seize 200 pot plants, gun on east side
A 42-year-old man is under arrest and 200 marijuana plants — and a gun — were seized during a raid Wednesday afternoon at a marijuana grow warehouse on Detroit’s east side, police said.
It was about 3 p.m. Wednesday when the Detroit Police Department’s major violators section executed a search warrant at three addresses in the 15100 block of Gratiot, said Kenyetta Hebron, a Detroit Police spokeswoman.
Police say the 42-year-old was observed trying to enter the rear of the warehouse. Police announced their presence, but were ignored. The man drove to the front of the building, let himself in, but refused police requests to open the door, according to police.
Detroit police called in the fire department for an assist in making a forced entry. Inside, they found what is being described as an illegal marijuana grow. Some 200 plants were seized, said Michael Woody, director of media relations for the Detroit Police Department. The suspect was arrested, and police were able to seize a weapon from him as well.
