Detroit police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a wheelchair-bound man, believed to be in his 60s, who was hit by a car Sunday night on Detroit’s southwest side.

The crash, between the man’s wheelchair and a 1999 silver Lexus SUV, took place about 8 p.m. Sunday night on the 1800 block of South Bassett, which is south of Schaefer and east of Fort Street.

A 27-year-old woman was driving the Lexus SUV northbound on South Bassett when she hit the man, who was crossing the road in his wheelchair. Medics transported the man to Oakwood Hospital, where he was in critical condition at last report.

Now, police must find out who the man is. Police describe him only as a black male in his 60s, who would’ve been in a wheelchair. The Detroit Police Department is asking anyone who can identify the man to call 313-596-5540 or 313-596-1616.

There was no information immediately available about whether the driver of the SUV was ticketed, said Detroit police spokeswoman Jennifer Watson.
