Ta-Nehisi Coates — the author and journalist hailed as one of the leading voices on race in America — is speaking at the University of Detroit Mercy next month.

Coates will deliver the keynote presentation on “Between the World and Me,” the title of the book he wrote in the form of a letter to his teenage son on being black in America. The book won the 2015 National Book Award for Nonfiction.

Coates, who has written a memoir and also is a national correspondent for The Atlantic Magazine, will speak at 6:30 p.m. April 4 at UDM’s Calihan Hall, 4001 W. McNichols.

The presentation is open to the public. Admission is free to UDM students; general admission tickets cost $10 and can be ordered here.
