Detroit man, 36, accused of fatally beating his mother

The Wayne County Prosecutor has charged a 36-year-old Detroit man in the Friday fatal beating of his mother, officials said.

Raymond Mealy has been charged with first-degree murder and appeared Monday in 36th District Court in Detroit for a hearing on the case. A magistrate scheduled a probable cause conference for April 6 and a preliminary exam for April 13.

Authorities accuse Mealy of beating his 64-year-old mother to death at their home in the 7700 block of Bramell near Telegraph Road and Warren Avenue on the city's west side. The incident happened at about 12:45 p.m. Friday.

Police said a relative visited the woman's home, found her body and called police.
