Detroit mother charged in son’s non-fatal shooting
Wayne County's prosecutor has authorized a warrant against a 29-year-old Detroit woman in connection with the Saturday non-fatal shooting of her 9-year-old son.
Shecolby Lemay Green is to be charged with second-degree child abuse and felony firearm possession in the incident, according to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy's office.
Police said the boy was in an upstairs bedroom of the home when he found a hand gun in his mother's purse and shot himself in the right hand. At the time, Green was on the first floor of the home with two other children.
Green is scheduled to be formally charged in court on the warrant at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in 36th District Court.
Police said Green's son was shot at about 10 a.m. Saturday in the family's home in the 5500 block of the John C. Lodge Service Drive.
The boy's mother called 911 and emergency medical technicians took her son to a hospital for treatment. Authorities said the boy is expected to recover from his wound.
