Two men in their 20s were shot, and one was killed, while standing in a vacant lot on Detroit’s west side Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The shooting took place about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday on the 19200 block of Margareta, which is east of Greenfield and south of West Seven Mile.

Witnesses told police that a suspect walked up, shot both victims, and escaped eastbound on Margareta on foot. A 26-year-old man died at the scene, while a 28-year-old man was injured. After being transported to the area hospital and taken into surgery, he was in stable condition at last report, said officer Jennifer Moreno, a Detroit Police Department spokeswoman.
