Man charged with breaking into Detroit water station

A 25-year-old man has been charged with breaking into a Detroit Water and Sewerage station and stealing cash and checks.

Authorities allege that Ernest Lee Jones Jr. of Detroit used a crowbar and sledgehammers to enter the service station in the 13300 block of E. McNichols about 4 a.m. April 15 and again early on April 19.

Police responding to a report of a break-in arrested Jones at 2:05 a.m. April 19.

He is charged with safe breaking, breaking and entering a building, possession of burglar’s tools, and receiving and concealing stolen property. He is expected to be arraigned Saturday in 34th District Court in Romulus.
