A Detroit firefighter cut his left cheek in the course of battling a blaze at a vacant home on Detroit’s west side, but was treated, released and continued on his shift early Wednesday morning.

The fire, at a vacant home in the area of Blaine and Wildemere — which is south of Joy Road and west of Linwood — was reported at about 1:16 a.m. Wednesday, said Dave Fornell, deputy commissioner for the Detroit Fire Department.
It took about two hours to put the fire down, during which time the firefighter was cut. But no one else was hurt, Fornell said.
