Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a $7,000 reward for tips leading to a suspect who fatally shot a 15-year-old girl last fall on Detroit’s west side.

Jada Rankin was leaving her grandmother’s home on the 14300 block of Ardmore after a birthday party at about 2 a.m. Oct. 16 when a silver 2007 Chevy reportedly sped down the street — sparking a confrontation with relatives, police and family members have said.

The driver then allegedly fired gunshots into the crowd gathered outside, striking the teen. She was pronounced dead at Sinai-Grace Hospital.

“As a community, we must come together and show zero tolerance for those who hurt or kill our children,” Crime Stoppers officials said Thursday. “Jada was only 15 years old. A bright future cut way to short. She had a 4.0 grade point average at Sterling Heights High School.”

If a tip leading to an arrest is received by midnight, $1,000 will be added to the reward, Crime Stoppers leaders said.

Anyone with information can anonymously call the group at 1-800-SPEAK-UP, go to www.1800speakup.org or text CSM and a tip to 274637.
