Semi truck falls from Rouge River Bridge on I-75
A semi truck went over the edge on Interstate 75 at the Rouge River Bridge in Detroit on Thursday morning, the Michigan Department of Transportation said.
The incident started with “some type of crash,” said spokeswoman Diane Cross, and resulted in damage to both the reinforced median wall, which is protecting workers handling upgrades on the closed down southbound side of the road, and the outside wall. The crash came in the midst of a day when at least two inches of rain are expected in Metro Detroit.
Cross told The News that northbound I-75 was closed as a result, with motorists being detoured onto Fort Street, but that “we’ll get out of there as soon as possible” and the hope is to have traffic moving again by the early afternoon.
Cross said she wasn’t sure if anyone was hurt. Michigan State Police could not immediately be reached.
