Cops: Man shot through both legs in accidental shooting

James David Dickson
The Detroit News

A 39-year-old Detroit man was left in serious condition early Tuesday morning after being hit in both legs during a shooting police believe was accidental.

The shooting took place about 1:40 a.m. on the 14200 block of Strathmoor, which is north of Grand River and west of Schaefer on Detroit’s west side. Michael Woody, director of media relations for the Detroit Police Department, says a 37-year-old woman was cleaning her 9 mm handgun when it went off.

The fired round went through both of the man’s legs, Woody said. At last report, he was in serious condition.

In the early hours after the incident, Woody said “it looks like it was an accidental shooting,” and no arrests were made.
