A man believed to be in his 20s was killed Sunday morning on Detroit’s east side, fatally shot near a church that was in service, police said.

The shooting was reported at about 10:30 a.m. on the 19300 block of Mound, said Dontae Freeman, social media manager for the Detroit Police Department. That’s north of East Seven Mile.

A witness who was attending church at the World Wide Missionary Baptist Church heard multiple gunshots and saw the victim in the street before calling 911. Medics arrived, but pronounced the victim dead at the scene. There is no description of the suspect in the early hours of the investigation.
