Two EMS medics were hurt after their ambulance was hit in a crash with an SUV on Detroit's west side on Sunday night.

The crash took place about 6:47 p.m. in the area of Tireman and Northfield, which is east of Livernois.

The ambulance was transporting a woman who reported chest pains to Henry Ford Hospital, said deputy fire commissioner Dave Fornell. The ambulance was hit by a black GMC Arcadia.

After impact, "the SUV wound up quite a distance" from the crash, and both the SUV and the ambulance were totaled, Fornell said.

Medics reported neck and back pain and were transported to Henry Ford Hospital. They've since been released.

Another ambulance came to finish transporting the woman who was being transported prior to the crash. Medics also transported the woman who drove the Arcadia to the hospital, because she had reported chest pains. But at some point before being treated, the woman walked away from the hospital, Fornell said.
