Amtrak and People Mover offer Detroit travel discounts
Detroit — Traveling to the Motor City by train will be a lot cheaper over the next few weeks.
Amtrak is offering a special deal to travel to Detroit on the Wolverine line for only $5 through Sept. 4. The Wolverine line departs from Dearborn, Ann Arbor, Pontiac, Royal Oak and Troy. Riders can book tickets at amtrak.com.
While in Detroit, Amtrak encourages riders to take advantage of the new QLine, which is offering free rides through Labor Day. The street car’s 3.3-mile route on Woodward features 12 stops, including destinations like Comerica Park, the Fox Theatre and Midtown.
The QLine runs five streetcars Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
In another travel promotion, the Detroit People Mover is offering free rides on Monday, 6:30 a.m. to midnight, in celebration of its 30th anniversary. Rides are normally 75 cents.
As part of the celebration, free samples of Detroit Water Ice will be available at the Grand Circus Park and Financial District stations from noon to 2 p.m.
Over 65 million passengers have riden the People Mover since it opened July 31, 1987. The People Mover reports that it has generated over $12 million in economic benefits to the downtown district.
