14-year-old girl killed in Detroit drive-by
A 14-year-old girl was killed and her 17-year-old brother seriously injured in a drive-by shooting on Detroit’s east side Thursday night.
According to Detroit Police Department spokesman Dontae Freeman, shots were fired into a house in the 19000 block of Waltham around 11 p.m. The girl was struck once in the chest, and the boy was also struck once. Family members rushed them to an unspecified hospital, where the 14-year-old was pronounced dead and the boy is in critical condition.
Neighbors said numerous shots were fired from a silver or green Ford Windstar minivan that pulled up in front of the house and then sped away. No casings were recovered.
The house sits just south of 7 Mile Road between Hoover and Schoenherr streets.
