Man slain, dog shot inside Detroit home

A 52-year-old man was found dead and a dog in his home was found shot Thursday morning on Detroit's east side, police said.

The man was killed inside his home on the 11800 block of Promenade. The area is south of East Outer Drive and west of Conner. In the early hours of the investigation, no suspect description is available, said Officer Dan Donakowski, a Detroit Police Department spokesman.

The man's body was discovered about 7:45 a.m. when a visitor to the home arrived to find the door open.

The visitor went inside and found the man dead and a dog in the home shot. No update on the dog's condition was immediately available. 

Police are investigating.
