Detroit Police investigate body found in vehicle fire
An unidentified man's body was found Wednesday morning inside a burning vehicle on the city's east side, Detroit Police said.
Sgt. Nicole Kirkwood said the vehicle, a white 2007 GMC Yukon XL, was parked in the 10000 block of East Outer Driver near Hayes Street.
A resident of the area told police she was awakened by a popping sound on the side of her home, according to Kirkwood.
She looked outside, saw the flame-engulfed SUV in her driveway and called the fire department, police said.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, they found a body inside the vehicle, officials said. Police said they received a call about the body at 2:53 a.m. Wednesday.
Investigators determined the body was male and had a gunshot wound, Kirkwood said.
She said police continue to investigate.
