A 27-year-old Detroit man was killed Wednesday night after being shot in the stomach when he answered the door, police said.

The fatal shooting took place about 7:33 p.m. at an apartment building on the 5000 block of East Outer Drive, said Officer Dan Donakowski, a Detroit Police Department spokesman. That's north of Seven Mile and east of Van Dyke.

The victim and a woman were inside the apartment when there was a knock on the door.

The man responded but was shot in his stomach when he opened the door. Medics transported him to an area hospital, but he was dead on arrival.

There is no suspect description immediately available.
