Detroit man, 25, held in fatal stabbing of mom
A 25-year-old Detroit man was in police custody late Sunday after allegedly stabbing his mother to death and then attacking two men after crashing his mother’s car.
Detroit police Officer Dan Donakowski said the 42-year-old mother was fatally stabbed between 3:45 p.m. and 5:50 p.m. at a home on the 12000 block of Hayden on the city’s west side. The suspect, who is the woman’s son, then allegedly fled the scene in her 2007 Dodge Charger.
The suspect later allegedly was involved in a hit-and-run crash on Detroit’s east side. He came across two males after leaving the scene, Donakowski said.
“He stabbed one of the males in the area of Dickerson and Wilshire ... a 46-year-old black man,” Donakowski said. “He’s in critical condition, stabbed four times in the back and once in the face.”
According to Donakowski, the second male victim was stabbed in the hand, and was in temporary serious condition. No other details were available about that victim or where the stabbing occurred.
It was unclear whether the suspect knew either of the male victims.
A canine unit tracked the 25-year-old to an abandoned house on Promenade, where he was arrested at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.
The suspect was being held at the department’s Detroit Detention Center.
