Detroit police are investigating an accident in which a pedestrian was fatally struck by a driver on the city’s west side Wednesday night.

According to a preliminary report, the motorist driving west on Seven Mile near Lauder in a 2006 Ford Explorer “didn’t see the victim who was standing in the middle of the street” before striking her at about 8:10 p.m., investigators said.

The pedestrian, identified only as a middle-age woman, was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital.

The driver, a 42-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
