Detroit police are on the lookout for a young man accused of holding the staff and shoppers of a Metro PCS store on the city's east side at gunpoint before stealing money and fleeing.

The incident took place about 7:45 p.m. Monday at the Metro PCS at the Lafayette Towers Center, on the 1500 block of East Lafayette, east of Interstate 75.

A camera is seen here in the windshield of a Detroit police car.

Officer Holly Lowe, a Detroit Police Department spokeswoman, said the suspect entered the store, announced it was a hold-up, and stole "an undisclosed amount of currency" before fleeing on foot. He was last seeing heading southbound on Orleans.

Police describe the suspect as a black male 18 to 20 years old, 5-feet-6-inches tall, 140 pounds and slim. He wore all black and carried a blue steel automatic handgun.
