Firefighters find body in vacant Detroit house after blaze
A body was found early Friday morning in a vacant east side Detroit house after a fire, officials said.
Deputy Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell said Detroit firefighters responded to a fire in the 14000 block of Liberal Street near Seven Mile and Gratiot at about 2:52 a.m.
He said firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire and then conducted a search of the house.
Firefighters found a badly decomposing body inside the structure and called police, he said.
"It looks like the body had been there for quite a while," he said. "We've turned the investigation over to police and I think they're investigating it as a homicide."
