A 25-year-old driver has been charged for crashing into another car and then fleeing the scene on Detroit’s west side last month, city police said Friday.

An investigation and tips from the public led authorities to identify Lucious Cullen as the motorist who disregarded a red light, lost control of his Dodge Charger, hit a Chevrolet Impala and then struck a Family Dollar near Joy and Evergreen at about 5 a.m. Jan. 21.

The Impala driver, a 19-year old woman, was critically injured but is recovering, police said in a Friday statement.

Cullen was taken into custody without incident Monday in the 3700 block of E. Seven Mile, according to the release.

A warrant packet was submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. On Wednesday, Cullen was arraigned on three felony charges: reckless driving causing serious injury, driving while license suspended causing serious injury, and failing to stop at scene of accident resulting in serious impairment.

Bond was set at $15,000, officials reported.
