Father charged in 2-year-old daughter’s death
A 38-year-old Detroit father was charged Wednesday in the death of his 2-year-old daughter.
Thomas Smith was arraigned in 36th District Court Wednesday, according to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy's Office.
A magistrate set his bond at $100,000 and scheduled his next court appearances for Feb. 21 and Feb. 27 before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston.
Smith was charged with second-degree child abuse. According to the prosecutor’s office, the child was left in the care of her 7-year-old brother Sunday at a home in the 14000 block of Corbett.
When Smith returned, his daughter was lying at the bottom of the stairs, according to prosecutor’s office.
Medics responded to a 911 call and took the child to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
