Detroit — Four suspects are in custody Friday after multiple robberies and carjackings this week on the city's northwest side, Detroit Police Department officials said.

Deputy Chief David LeValley said the suspects were apprehended early Friday in connection with eight robberies on Thursday and two carjackings on Monday and Feb. 2.

He said all the robberies took place in northwest Detroit, including as far as Livernois and Seven Mile. The suspects were apprehended at a Project Green Light location on Grand River.

"After the robberies started occurring, we sent multiple units and began monitoring multiple Green Light locations in that area and our officers were watching the location when the robbery was taking place so we were able to get our units out there in enough time to catch them," LeValley said.

Police said the suspects would pull up in a vehicle and approach a female victim with a weapon and take their property. In the Green Light video, the woman was forced to the ground and police quickly dispatched units. No shots were fired in any of the robberies.

"These individuals weren't concerned they were at a Green Light location," LeValley said. "We had a good description because of the Green Light video. They were quickly taken into custody and taken to the Detroit detention center. At this point, we're not going to release the video because we don't want to taint the lineup."

Police said they retrieved evidence from the scene, including the vehicle that was used by the suspects, multiple handguns and two automatic weapons. They were also able to recover cell phones that were stolen.

They are also investigating if the suspects are connected to other robberies that occurred earlier this month.
