An 81-year-old Detroit man was pistol-whipped and carjacked outside his apartment late Saturday night on the city's east side, police said.

The incident took place about 8:45 p.m. on the 3600 block of Rivard, north of Mack.

The victim told police he was in front of his apartment when two armed men approached him on foot.

The first man said "don't move, I don't want to kill you." The second man hit the victim twice in the head with a handgun. The pair then stole the victim's keys — along with his Android phone and his wallet — and drove away in his four-door 2016 Lincoln MKX. The victim's vehicle, which is gray with tinted windows, was last seen headed north on Rivard.

Police describe the suspects only as two men in their 20s, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, with thin builds and dark complexion. They both wore black skull caps.

One carried a black assault rifle, the other a handgun. Police are investigating.
