Four men are recovering from their injuries after a crash between two vehicles during an attempted U-turn late Wednesday night on Detroit's east side, police said.

The crash took place about 9:20 p.m. on southbound Gratiot at Houston-Whittier, said Dontae Freeman, a Detroit Police Department spokesman. That's south of McNichols.

A GMC Savana and a Dodge Charger were both driving southbound on Gratiot when the Savana attempted a U-turn to travel northbound.

But the Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed and hit the driver's side of the Savana.

Three people were injured in the Savana, and the driver of the Charger was injured. All four required medical attention.

The driver of the Savana, a 40-year-old man, was left in stable condition. A 34-year-old male passenger was left in critical condition, and a 32-year-old male passenger was listed in stable condition.

The driver of the Charger, a 25-year-old man, was left in stable condition.

Police are investigating.
