Detroit police say a pair of passing motorists stopped to aid a sexual assault victim and led officers to the man who attacked her.

Police said the incident occurred at 1:43 p.m. Sunday near Schoolcraft and Grand River Avenue when the 54-year-old female victim was walking westbound along Schoolcraft.

According to police, Gerald Fuller, 49, pulled up in a silver Ford Fusion onto the grass near her.

"The suspect exited the vehicle, approached the victim, threw her onto the ground and sexually assaulted her," according to a press release.

During that time, two motorists stopped to help and the male witness approached Fuller, who returned to his car and fled, police said. The male witness followed the Fusion to a Valero gas station on the 15400 block of Schoolcraft, a Project Green Light location where the witness cornered the suspect until police arrived.

The female witness transported the victim to the gas station, where she met police, who took Fuller to the Detroit Detention Center for processing.
