Detroit police are working to find a suspect caught on camera carjacking a woman this week on the city’s east side.

After the 33-year-old driver pulled up to a pump at a Marathon gas station in the 15100 block of Gratiot about 3:20 a.m. Thursday and went inside, a red sedan parked directly across from her 2010 GMC Acadia, investigators said in a statement.

When the woman returned to the SUV, surveillance footage captured someone in dark clothing opening the other car’s back door and running toward her.

The unknown person “demanded her keys at gunpoint,” authorities said. The victim fell to the ground but complied.

While she ran back inside the gas station for help, the suspect was filmed driving north on Gratiot behind the sedan, possibly a Chevy Impala.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information is asked to call Detroit Police Commercial Auto Theft officials at (313) 596-2555. Anonymous tips also can be submitted through the DPD Connect app or by calling Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
