Police: Teen carjacks ride-share driver
A 40-year-old driver for a ride-share company was carjacked early Sunday while serving a fare on Detroit's east side, police said.
The carjacking took place about 3:07 a.m. in the area of Bedford and McKinney, which is north of Interstate 94 and west of Cadieux.
The victim arrived to pick up a fare, but the rider was under the age of 18. As the driver waited for permission to transport the rider, the suspect pulled out a silver handgun and ordered the driver out of his blue 2006 Mitsubishi Galant.
The victim complied and watched as the suspect drove off. The license plate for the Galant is DPN 4584.
Police describe the suspect as 17 years old, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds, and armed with a silver handgun.
Information on which ride-share company the victim was driving for was not immediately available.
