Man charged in murder of woman dragged in viral video
A 43-year-old man was charged Thursday with first-degree murder in the homicide of a 57-year-old Detroit woman who was dragged and left in the middle of a west-side sidewalk in broad daylight earlier this week.
The incident was captured in a horrifying surveillance video that went viral online.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Rudolph Lawton Henderson with the murder of Annetta Nelson. He was expected to be arraigned Thursday in 36th District Court.
The woman’s body was seen lying on a sidewalk along Winthrop near Plymouth around 4:25 p.m. Monday.
Henderson allegedly flagged down police and one of the officers noticed Nelson lying on the sidewalk unconscious and not breathing. Medics were called to the scene and pronounced Nelson dead.
In the video, a man is seen dragging Nelson, who is partially clothed, down the steps from a home in the area and placing her body on the sidewalk and then coming back and dragging her again down the street.
The prosecutor’s office said details of the woman’s death and other facts in the case will be presented at Henderson’s preliminary examination, which has not been scheduled.
