Authorities have charged a 25-year-old Detroit man in the armed robbery and attempted sexual assault of a woman at a downtown Detroit parking garage Monday.

Darius Deontae Jackson has been charged with several crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, second-degree assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felony firearm possession.

If convicted he faces life in prison.

Jackson was arraigned on the charges in 36th District Court in Detroit and remanded to jail Thursday, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

A judge scheduled his next court appearance for March 8.

Police said Jackson is accused of assaulting a 61-year-old woman around 11:15 p.m. Monday as she approached her car in the Detroit Opera House parking garage located in the 1400 block of Broadway Street in Detroit.

They allege he then ordered the woman into the back seat of her car.

She complied because she believed he was armed and saw an object in his hand, police said.

Once in the vehicle, he physically assaulted her and attempted to sexually assault her, officials said.

Authorities said the victim managed to fight off the suspect, who fled. She then alerted security and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Jackson turned himself in at the Rosa Parks Transit Center early Wednesday morning, police said.
