Tips sought in bystander’s fatal shooting in Detroit
Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering up to $2,500 for tips in a shooting last fall on Detroit’s east side that left a bystander dead.
Paul Ross was sitting in a 1969 Delta 88 while his nephew filled it about 9 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Sunoco gas station in the 9700 block of Van Dyke while two men fought in the street nearby, investigators said in a statement.
Someone started firing shots, and a stray bullet hit Ross, according to the release.
The 35-year-old Ford Motor Co. line worker and father of three was rushed to a hospital but died the next day.
If Crime Stoppers receives a tip leading to an arrest by midnight Thursday, the group plans to add $1,000 to the reward.
Anyone with information can anonymously reach Crime Stoppers at 1-800 SPEAK-UP or through www.1800speakup.org.
