Police: Body 'burned beyond recognition' in car fire

Police are investigating Sunday after a body was found "burned beyond recognition" in a car fire in Southwest Detroit. 

Firefighters extinguished the gray 2000 Chevy Silverado shortly before 6 a.m. and discovered the victim inside. 

The car fire took place on the 9600 block of Herkimer, which is north of I-75 and east of the Rouge River. 

The Wayne County Medical Examiner is working to identify the victim.
