A 23-year-old man was shot in his back on Detroit's west side late Wednesday night in what police believe is a family dispute that started with the victim taking money from a relative.

The shooting took place about 11 p.m. at West Seven Mile and Lauder, said Dontae Freeman, a Detroit Police Department spokesman. The area is west of the John C. Lodge Freeway.

Freeman says the suspect, a 20-year-old man, was allegedly upset that the victim took money from a family member, so he found him and shot him in his back. Police believe the victim and the suspect are also related.

The victim was able to be treated at the scene, Freeman said. Police are trying to locate the suspect.
