Bridge demo done, I-94 in Detroit reopens early

Drivers can resume full access to Interstate 94 in Detroit after the state transportation department reopened a stretch Sunday night, hours earlier than expected.

The Michigan Department of Transportation tweeted Sunday night that work to demolish a portion of the Gratiot Avenue bridge and the entire Chene Street overpass was completed early. The work was expected to require closing I-94 between Connor and Interstate 75 for the weekend, beginning Friday and ending at 5 a.m. Monday.

“Work Zone Cleared: EB/WB I-94 between I-75 & Connor. all lanes back open,” the department tweeted about 8:45 p.m.
