Dog days coming to Comerica Park

Comerica Park will open its gates to dogs on May 14 when canines can take to the stands alongside their humans to watch the Detroit Tigers play the Cleveland Indians.

It’s the first of two “Bark at the Park” events scheduled this season, with the other slated for Sept. 17, when the Tigers face off against the Minnesota Twins.

The event is co-sponsored by Comerica Park and the Michigan Humane Society. A portion of the proceeds will go to the humane society, which cares for tens of thousands of animals each year.

Dog days have become a fan favorite since the inaugural Bark bash in 2016, attracting hundreds of dogs of all shapes and sizes. Tail-waggers at previous events received treats, played in small plastic tubs of water and posed for photos.

A special Bark at the Park event ticket is required to participate, and Bark at the Park packages only can be bought online. There will be no day-of-game sales, with no exceptions, according to the sponsors. Humans will be asked to provide copies of their canines’ up-to-date vaccination records when they check in.

Fans can buy a Bark at the Park ticket package for $48 that includes one ticket for an adult human and a ticket for one dog. Only one dog is allowed per adult ticket, but additional adult tickets can be purchased.

The tickets provide access to the Bark at the Park party area featuring water stations, dog "restrooms," Michigan Humane Society volunteers and other amenities.
