Police: Man, 60, killed in armed robbery
A 60-year-old man was killed Monday morning, despite complying with the demands of two men who robbed him at gunpoint, police said.
The fatal shooting took place about 11 a.m. on the 12000 block of Coyle, police said. The area is south of Interstate 96 and east of Greenfield on the city's west side.
Officer Holly Lowe, a Detroit Police Department spokeswoman, said that two men wearing all black and ski masks, armed with at least one handgun, entered the business, an auto parts shop, and announced a hold-up.
The victim complied, handing over a bag of money.
But one of the men shot him in the chest anyway.
Medics arrived and took the victim to an area hospital, but he died from his injuries.
The suspects fled on foot and may have escaped in an early 2000s green-blue Jeep Cherokee. Police are investigating.
