Two children were found alone in a motel as police were investigating a shooting and now authorities are asking for the public's help locating their parents.

Around 12:30 a.m., at the Cranbrook House Motel on the 20500 block of James Couzens, a 29-year-old man walked through the parking lot, heard people arguing, heard the sound of shots fired — then realized he'd been shot in his back, police said.

Police are searching for the parents of two toddlers found in a motel room at M-10 and Eight Mile early March 27, 2018.

Medics arrived on scene and took the victim to an area hospital. He's listed in temporary serious condition.

Police arrived and found a bullet hole in the window of room 119. Then they went inside that room and found two toddlers, under the age of two, one in a crib, one in a bed, both of their diapers soiled and in need of changing.

Police ask that anyone with information on the parents of two toddlers found March 27, 2018 in a Detroit motel call (313) 596-5329.

Medics verified that the children were OK, and DPD's child abuse was involved in the case early Tuesday.

Police have distributed pictures of the children and ask anyone who knows the identity or whereabouts of the children's parents to call authorities who investigate child abuse at (313) 596-5329.

Police are also investigating the shooting. Tipsters who prefer anonymity can share what they know with Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 800-SPEAK-UP.
