Detroit police are investigating a fatal shooting of a 30-year-old man on  Saturday night on the city's west side.

The homicide took place about 6:55 p.m. on the 6700 block of Artesian, which is south of West Warren and west of the Southfield Freeway.

Police initially arrived on the 6100 block of Artesian to respond to a car crash.

But a witness at the scene told them that the crash had actually started with a shooting.

The victim was driving south on Artesian, following a gray Nissan Altima, when the Altima pulled over and a passenger got out. The passenger then pulled a gun and fired about 10 shots in the direction of the victim's vehicle.

This caused his vehicle to lose control and  hit a number of parked cars on the street.

Medics arrived and took the victim to a hospital, but he died from his injuries.
