Stove fire extinguished at MGM Grand
The MGM Grand Detroit was evacuated Wednesday as Detroit firefighters worked to extinguish a blaze believed to have started in a stove inside a casino restaurant.
MGM Grand hotel guest Gabrielle Finley said a fire alarm woke her up Wednesday morning and she was told to evacuate. The blaze was reported before 9 a.m. Guests were given the all-clear to re-enter the hotel/casino around 10:35 a.m.
Deputy Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell said there were no injuries and the hotel and casino were evacuated as a precaution.
“That’s been lifted and people are allowed back in,” he said outside the casino on the corner of Bagley and Third.
He said fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
He also said it appears the fire was small and started inside a stove in the MGM’s Palette restaurant.
He said the restaurant will remain closed for a while but the rest of the facility will resume operations.
