Detroit police are investigating an early Monday carjacking during which shots were fired on the city's west side.

The carjacking took place at 12:15 a.m. on the 19400 block of Ilene, said Dontae Freeman, a spokesman for the Detroit Police Department. The area is just off West Outer Drive and east of Wyoming.

The victim, a 30-year-old woman, was sitting in her driveway, in her Jeep Patriot, when a man knocked on her driver-side window with a handgun and ordered her out of the SUV.

She complied, and the man got into the vehicle and backed it out of the driveway.

A 28-year-old man heard the commotion outside and approached the scene, but a second suspect fired at least one gunshot, holding him at bay but not injuring him.

The suspects were last seen driving the jeep northbound toward St. Martins Avenue.
