Early Thursday, two masked men burst into a home on Detroit's west side, demanded money, and started shooting, leaving a 27-year-old man dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting homicide happened at 12:41 a.m., on the 15400 block of Steel, said Sgt. Nicole Kirkwood, a Detroit Police Department spokeswoman. The area is north of Fenkell and west of Meyers.

Kirkwood said the masked men broke into the home's front door, demanded cash, then shot the victim multiple times.

The victim was privately conveyed to an area hospital, but died from his injuries. The suspects are described only as two masked, armed men.

As of April 15, Detroit had 70 homicides for the year, Kirkwood said, which is 18 percent down from that point in 2017.
