1 found dead after Detroit house fire

One person died in an early morning house fire on the city’s west side which remains under investigation, an official said.
The victim, identified only as a 64-year-old man, was found on the second floor of the two-story building in the 19000 block of Danbury, near John R and between Seven Mile and State Fair. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, Deputy Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell said. At least one other occupant, the victim’s nephew, escaped without injury.
Fornell said the call came in about 2 a.m. that the house was on fire and firefighters had to suppress it from outside the burning structure, which was severely damaged. Flames were so hot that it did minor damage to a neighboring address, he said. No firefighters were injured.
“The victim was found by firefighters after they made it inside,” said Fornell. “Arson investigators don’t view it as suspicious and it is believed to have started in the kitchen area. It remains under investigation.”
