Two victims were carjacked at gunpoint Sunday night on Detroit's west side, police said.

The carjacking took place about 10:30 p.m. Sunday on the 10600 block of Santa Maria, said Officer Holly Lowe, a Detroit Police Department spokeswoman. The area is north of West McNichols and just west of West Outer Drive.

The victims had just entered a black 2008 Mercury Milan when two men in ski masks and all-black clothing approached, one on the driver side, one on the passenger side.

The suspect on the driver side held a handgun. The suspects ordered the victims —  the driver born in 1991, the passenger born in 1987 — out of the car, took their cellphones, tossed them over a fence, then fled in the stolen vehicle.

After the suspects drove off, the victims hopped the fence and retrieved their cellphones.

Police are investigating.
