Detroit police are investigating the early Friday sexual assault of a woman by a man who broke into her home, police said.

The attack happened at about 4:15 a.m. at a home in the 12000 block of Stringham Court near East Warren Avenue and Conner Street on the city's east side, officials said.

The victim, a 62-year-old woman, told police a man broke into her home through a first-floor window, entered her bedroom and told her he was armed.

He then made the victim disrobe and he sexually assaulted her, according to authorities.

After the attack, the suspect took some of the victim's cash and personal belongings and fled the residence through a back door, police said.

She described the suspect as an African-American male in his 20s with a medium complexion, about 6-feet-1-inch tall and weighing 160 pounds. She told police he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident should call Detroit Police Department's 5th Precinct at (313) 596-5500.
