1 killed, 2 injured in crash outside White Castle

Detroit police say two vehicles were involved in a crash early Saturday that killed a 43-year-old woman and hospitalized two others. 

The crash happened in the at Joy and Greenfield at 2 a.m., police said. 

Police said the driver was exiting the White Castle parking lot when she and her two passengers were struck by the speeding driver.

Police said a 21-year-old woman driving a 2002 Ford Explorer was exiting the White Castle parking lot when a 31-year-old man driving a gray 2011 Chevy Traverse was speeding and struck the Explorer. 

The crash caused the Explorer to strike a pole on Joy Road. The driver of the Explorer is in critical condition. Her front passenger, a 43-year-old woman was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at a hospital. Another 23-year-old rear passenger suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital in temporary serious conditions. 

The driver of the Traverse was arrested on the scene.
