Man carjacked after hitting parked car
A 23-year-old man was carjacked late Saturday night on Detroit's east side after hitting a parked car and being assaulted at gunpoint, police said.
The armed carjacking took place about 11 p.m. in the area of Dickerson and Wilshire, north of Interstate 94.
The victim, who was driving a 2003 silver Ford Taurus, told police he had hit a parked car.
At that point police said the victim said a man, standing standing 6 feet 1 inches tall, with a beard, wearing a blue polo shirt and carrying a silver handgun, approached the man and demanded money for hitting his his vehicle.
But the victim didn't have any money. So the suspect assaulted him and took the Taurus and the victim's cell phone and fled.
Police said two other men may have been involved, but only limited descriptions are available.
After the carjacking, the victim walked to the Detroit Police Department's 9th Precinct, which is a bit more than a mile and a quarter from the crime scene. After being taken to a hospital, he was listed in stable condition.
